4th Graders Using Google Suite and BYOD to Research Lonestar Heros

Students in 4th grade are researching Lonestar Heros as part of a multi-week project.  Students utilized the research function in Google Docs to supplement their research of their person.  The Research function allows students to search for information and images and then cites the source for them as a footnote.  Several students brought their own device to use in class.  This helped increase the device to student ratio so that more students could work on their project at school.

Check back to see their finished projects!

Ms. Walker's First Grade Class Creates Wordles for Historical Figures

Mrs. Walker's first grade class has been studying historical figures that shaped our country and community.
After reading about historical figures, students worked in groups using their notes, they listed important words to describe the character of the historical figure: day they were born, died and maybe a quote or important fact.
After each student created their Wordle, they drew an important event in their historical figures life. They wrote what the picture was about, the name of the historical figure, and included an actual picture of the figure on the Wordle to show what he or she looked like.

Remind 101

Several DFT teachers have been using an amazing tool called Remind 101 to communicate with students in a safe and secure matter.

First a teacher sets up an account and creates a class.  The teacher then gives a code to students and parents that they can either text to a specific number or email to a specific address to be enrolled in the class.  Teachers can schedule reminders about upcoming assignments, last minute schedule changes, and anything else they might need to remind students about.  The teacher's phone number is kept private, and the students are listed by their name in her class list and not their phone number or email.  This help keeps both teacher and student information private between the two parties.
