Activotes for the Whole Class

Mrs. Bridendolph's third grade class was expanding their use of the interactive Promethean Board with the student response systems called Activotes. These devices are a great tool and an easy way to assess and include all of the students throughout the lesson. Miss Hintz went over Cause and Effect with the class to help review the different types of questions we can ask and vote on. Here a student is writing their opinion and the class will vote A for Thumbs up (they agree) or B for thumbs down (disagree). Great news, they all agreed that the causes would make the audience cheer!

Alternative Energy Project

Mrs. Delahoussaye’s 5th Graders worked on an Alternative Energy Source Challenge. The challenge included several activities to complete including crossword puzzles, collages, posters, powerpoints and more. Students were encouraged to investigate conservation efforts in our community. Check out some of the projects.

Writing in 4th Grade

Mrs. Small’s 4th Grade class have been working on writing and typing skills. Students were able to choose a topic to write factual topic sentences and supporting details about. Additionally they practiced different kinds of leads in each paragraph. In the word processing application, students work on their typing skills, using the shift keys, enter, centering, underlining, etc., as well as copying and pasting images into their documents. A huge thank you one of our WATCH Dogs for helping our class one day running around the room to help our class.

Interactive TEKS building

At Double File Trail, teachers are always looking for ways to motivate students. We are fortunate enough to have Promethean Interactive Boards in many of our classrooms. Here is Mrs. Turner caught doing a TEKS study on with her students using this technology. It's a great motivator and students respond positively to the technology in their classroom.

Graphing in Grade 3

In preparation for their Independent Study Project, Grade 3 TAG students worked with Ms. Canfield and Ms. Hintz to learn how to graph in MS Excel. Students worked with a few different types of data to create and manipulate bar graphs and line graphs. Students did fantastic work making some individualized graphs, assessing if the charts represented the data they want to portray. We are excited to see what data students choose to represent their projects in visual graphs.

Science Fair on the Web

In preparation for our Science Fair in January, students can find all the resources they need on the DFT Science Fair Website. Important Dates are highlighted, any forms that need to be filled out, helpful links for getting projects started and even the Scientific Method. Sharing vital Science Fair information on the web is a great way to communicate with our families and provide a vast amount of resources while saving on paper!
